Clan Campbell was a formidable force in the West of Scotland, particularly in Argyllshire. Known as Diarmid, they were granted the title of Lordship of Lochow in the early 13th century. Colin Campbell of Lochow, an influential figure, was knighted around 1280. The Campbells later rose to prominence as Earls of Argyll. In 1701, William of Orange conferred a Dukedom to the 10th Earl, while the 9th Earl faced execution in 1685 for his role in the Monmouth Rebellion. The Campbells significantly influenced state affairs, holding prestigious positions such as Hereditary Lord Justice General and Admiral for Scotland's Western Coasts and Isles.
The Campbell of Cawdor Ancient Tartan showcases a vibrant design featuring bright green and teal squares, symbolizing Scotland's lush landscapes and waters. Black stripes add depth and contrast to the pattern, while thin red and light blue lines intersect the grid, adding complexity and vibrancy to the design. Made from 100% acrylic wool, this tartan ensures both durability and comfort, making it a perfect choice for those seeking a traditional yet striking Scottish aesthetic.
